I adore this new ornament that Santa left for me π π

Mazieβs Gingerbread house is epic this year.

Lefse flower with delicious lefse from Freddy’s Lefse! πΊ π

Record warm Christmas Eve means traditional tenderloins on the Big Green Egg in shirt sleeves!

Mazie and I took Lucky for a walk today. Vests. Open water. No snow. Unusual for December 23rd.

612 Series β Cherry and Spoon
My favorite local NFT project has been 612 Series by Erik Halaas of StayNftyMpls. I’ve collected 35 of them, and am the only person to have one of every landmark in the series.
To celebrate collecting all of the unique landmarks Erik asked if I would like a block painting of one of my favorites. I leaped at the opportunity and suggested one of the most iconic Minneapolis landmarks in the collection β 612 Series #134 Cerry and Spoon
Here is the NFT image.

And here is the amazing block painting!

Iβm going to get this framed and likely have a print of the NFT alongside it. So very fun.
Everything happens so much.
I won the auction for the “10 of 10” museum quality brass plaque that Jeff Atwood auctioned in his I Fight For The Users post. It arrived today and is even more awesome in person! π€©
Description from the eBay listing:
Let’s celebrate the death of Twitter in style, with the best tweet of ALL TIME! This museum quality brass plaque features a famous tweet on June 28th, 2012 (which just so happens to be Elon Musk’s birthday) by @Horse_ebooks that reads, “Everything happens so much.” It’s almost 8 pounds, 14" wide by 8" tall, and will outlive all of us, regrettably. Includes brass bolts for mounting, too (not pictured). All proceeds are donated directly to The Trevor Project charity, which provides 24/7 crisis support to LGBTQ young people.
This is a unique item, 1 of 10 in the world, and it’s for a good cause, so bid appropriately :)

Wonka
We saw Wonka this evening and all thought the movie was great. Wonka tells the magical origin story of Willy Wonka. TimothΓ©e Chalamet plays the role of Wonka perfectly. I highly recommend going.
I wish we would have picked a different theater though. The seats were dirty, there was popcorn and debris all over, and the other people in the theater kept talking and making noise at various times.
Thinking about the experience had me thinking of the ideal. It would be incredible to see Wonka and get a box of chocolates to have during the movie, that are timed with the scenes in the movie, and matched with the flavors and story. There are several scenes where chocolate is a key character and having a taste to go with it would be incredible. π€©

I dig the simple and distinct look of the new Minnesota state flag. Certainly a more modern look.
Several years ago when I was still on the board of Minnestar we created a new branding system that looks almost like a precursor to the new flag.

POAP just published the Year in POAP 2023 with highlights of the year. POAP is one of my favorite crypto projects! I’ve issued a bunch of them! It was great to see the POAP I made for 20 Years of Olson Family Vacations highlighted in the Year in POAP!
Samβs Christmas Village and Light Show
We made our first trip to Samβs Christmas Village and Light Show to see the 12 million lights that they have on display. It was our favorite holiday light display we have been to. They have music playing, concessions, hot cocoa, Santa visits, and holiday music playing while you walk around the area.

We had friends over and played SHEEPLE: The Best Game in the Ewe-niverse for the first time. It was a fun game to play in a group with a lot of laughs. Recommended.

People & Blogs: Me!
When I first heard of Manuel Moreale’s People and Blogs project, I knew it was something I wanted to subscribe to and support. Keeping the web personal is vital to me. I love personal websites and blogs. A newsletter that shines a light on both sounded fabulous and would tell the stories of how we keep the web personal.
I was even more excited when Manuel invited me to participate! Issue 16 was released today: P&B: Jamie Thingelstad! π€©

Tammy and I went to The Holdovers tonight at the Mann Theatres in Edina. We both enjoyed the movie and particularly liked the retro feel and pace of it. Plus great acting and a good story.

It was fun to be able to speak at the Mntech Tech Outlook 2024 event today. Dan Abdul, Sarah Engstrom, Eric Hanson, and I introduced our companies and covered a lot of ground with Jeff Tollefson moderating. Topics ranged from GenAI, talent development, technology strategy, and more.

Upgraded to OmniFocus 4
I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of OmniFocus 4.0 and today is the day! I haven’t used any of the betas so it is all new to me. It was an easy decision to upgrade because OmniFocus is one of my most frequently used apps and the cornerstone of my GTD system.
I upgraded three Macs, my iPhone, iPad, and was excited to see a proper Apple Watch version that now runs completely independently.
My initial impressions:
- The user experience is a big change. It will take me a bit to get used to it, but I can already see how it is more streamlined.
- The logical role of perspectives in the user experience is way better.
- Love that the Apple Watch version is useful. I never used the previous version and it hadn’t been updated in years. This one I will use.

I was excited to be the first to claim tonight’s MN Blockchain Holiday Party POAP! Also see related POAPs.

Brandon Ferdig kicking off tonight’s MN Blockchain Holiday Party. The evening was a fun social event as well as a recap of the events the organization has hosted over the year. Thanks to Colin Hirdman for hosting the event.
