    Sea Monkeys

Tammy’s brand new, never played before, softball team has their first game tonight. I can’t wait to hear the recap!

I was super lucky this year and got a good number of these amazing sausages made by my friend Kevin. These are the best sausage I’ve ever had. Delicious.

Interesting box at One on One.

GIRLS ONLY - BOYS KEEP OUT!

Starting Ubuntu 9.04 upgrade on last two boxes.

    Role Models

We were on a real role with movies this weekend and decided to finish it off with a rental on Apple TV. Role Models was funnier than I was expecting.

Tammy and I continued her birthday weekend extravaganza with a second, really good movie, State of Play. Classic thriller, done right.

    The Soloist

Tammy and I went to see The Soloist last night and I thought it was just a great movie. I hope we never stop making movies like this.

    Open Font Library

CSS3 is bringing @font-face, which finally allows us to use a variety of real fonts on the web. Huzzah! This site offers a variety of fonts in an Open Font License. Hopefully the number of fonts available will grow over time.

Starting 2nd Ubuntu upgrade to 9.04. First one went very smooth.

Blasphemy: Aren’t Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and Whitesnake’s “Here I Go” essentially the same song?

I’m reading my first book via email from DailyLit. Rather like it for the right kind of book. Bite-sized segments needed.

Wha? Ubuntu 9.04 released? Time for do-release-upgrade?

    Yikes - that’s a lot of stuff.

    Money-Driven Medicine

My book club meeting tonight was just awesome. Highly recommend people read the book Money-Driven Medicine. Great discussion.

I’m really struggling to get the hang of the Goldtouch Ergo keyboard. The command key is hard to adjust to. The CTRL key is horribly placed.

    Minnedemo on May 7th, 2009

The next Minnedemo is now scheduled for May 7, 2009 at 6:00pm. It is free (as always), but registration is required so get signed up. There are 324 open tickets left at this point.

I’m a big fan of Minnedemo and find it a great place to connect with people and hear about some of the products and cool projects everyone is working on. Hope to see you there!

    First Attempt at Commercial Photography

I’ve been continuing to work on my photography skills and looking for projects to work on that are fun and help me learn more. I’ve worked out for a long time at a local personal training studio, Select Fitness. I had looked at the photos of the studio on their website and thought I could get them some better shots. Here are my photos.

I learned a number of things on this first try at commercial photography.

    1. Photographing a space like this was a lot more difficult than I expected. I tried to think through the uses of the photos and frame things right, but it wasn’t obvious to me exactly what and how I should be shooting.
    2. I wanted to use motion to capture some energy. I think it worked okay on the treadmill, allowing the picture to focus on the equipment and keep the people in the frame to show action and energy. However, I tried this on some other shots and it didn’t work very well.
    3. Lighting is key, and I am a complete newbie to lighting issues.

Of all the shots I took I think I liked this one with the weight stack and leg press the most. I really like the lines of the equipment and the shapes of the weights. The wall in the background makes a nice backdrop. I could see this being used with type over the top of it in really interesting ways as well.

Suspenders ← Cool starter project to get you going with your Rails work faster. Nice.

I’m really liking Instapaper, particularly with Tweetie integration. But things stack up faster than they come off.

TiVo didn’t record Frontline because American Idol and Biggest Loser took priority. Injustice of the highest order.
