New Blog Theme?

I’m experimenting with a new blog theme. Before I go through trouble getting it all wired up, I’m curious what the folks visiting this site may think.

So, what do you think?

As a long time reader of this blog, I like the look as it does not seem as cluttered or busy as the current one. I would be curious though to see it as a fulling running website to really compare the two. It looks great either way.

  2. I like it. Very simple and easy to read without being distracted by sidebars like every other blog. However, I don’t know how I feel about the bottom section. I almost “missed it” and only “found” it while posting this comment.

  3. seems easier for me to get to the items I read or select, even the photo’s were easier, by the way, thanks for keeping up with it on your trip as it’s so much fun to look at the pictures and read about all that you are experiencing!

  4. Dude whats with the Asian character? Is it always there? Is it Chinese for “blog post”? Kind of bugs since I don’t know what it means and can’t imagine how it applies to every post. It’s probably something really deep but there you go.

I can’t find the recent comments. Maybe I’m lazy? In any case that’s one of my favorite features.

    But clean. I like that.

  5. @Jim,

The Asian character is Dao/Tao and I really have no idea, it was just part of the theme. I’m thinking that as part of my nuclear powering this theme that I would consider making it a conditional icon based on the category of the post. Sound interesting?

Recent comments do need a home, probably go on the bottom. Not using any “traditional” sidebars forces some economy, but I think most of that economy is good.

I’ve tweaked the stylesheet a fair amount, but there is much more to investigate. I really dislike the comments section on the single post view. I really like the breadcrumb navigation I activated. So, we’ll see. The theme itself has proven to be well written, clean and uses good naming conventions so it’s proving to be a worthwhile base to build upon.

  6. Well here u go: I don’t like it. It’s too simple. Maybe I have ADD but I like to see more comment. Sure it’s clean, but its like never ending scrolling down. plus you know I love columns. the scrolling pics on top are cool. What’s up with Jim and Asia? :)

  7. Okay — I decided to just go back to the old one. Thanks for the feedback. Whatever inadequacies I have with this theme will be easier to solve and take less time than jamming up a whole new theme. Thanks!
