"...The funny thing about regret is,
It's better to regret something you have done,
Than to regret something you haven't done..."

Been there my friend...

If all else fails, you can zap the rom on the chip with a paper clip, put it into "safe" mode, then upload new firmware. Here's some instructions:

http://www.thenorth.com/apblog4.nsf/0/668D65A56B02BB4B852570A400535F16

I had to do this multiple times to get an old Linsys to work with my airport express.

I know you offered Hadar, but that would imply that I was acting rationally with forethought. Clearly I was not. :-)

I don't have an Airport Express yet. I have two Airport Extreme's for home. If I hit another situation where I need WiFi in the room I'll likely just go to the store and get an Airport Express.

BTW - with DD-WRT on your WTR-54GS you can bridge to a secured WiFi network. Nice.

If I ever try the JTAG thing I'll post on how it goes. Right now the router is a total brick.

Not to out you in public, but since I only bought mine on your recommendation, I did privately offer you to attempt the upgrade on my machine, as I was willing to brick it if necessary. You went ahead on your own. At least mine isn't a brick (yet), so there's a partial happy ending to this saga. ;-)

That said, don't you also travel with your Airport Extreme? I know that the Linksys does stuff (like bridge wireless networks) that the Airport doesn't, but for normal "give me WiFi" where there is only wired, it should be great, no?
